A little kindness
and gentleness
toward yourself

is wiser than
any amount of analytical

Mindfulness provides
a simple but powerful route for getting
ourselves unstuck,

back in touch
with our own wisdom
and vitality ...

The most important point
is to be really yourself

and not try to become
anything that you are not already ...

being in touch
with your deepest nature,

and letting it flow
out of you unimpeded

.b FOUNDATIONS TASTER in Frome

For Teachers, Educational Staff and .b Parents

Next Taster Dates TBC

This .b Foundations Taster session is an introduction to the basic principles of mindfulness, it will dispel any myths about it, provide an opportunity to try out the practice and explain the evidence for its potential benefits.

Whilst the Taster is a stand-alone session, it can also be the start of the mindfulness journey for staff and schools, and for parents whose children are, or will be, receving .b or Paws b. The school can hear from staff whether they wish to explore mindfulness further through the
.b Foundations © course.

The 8-session .b Foundations course is primarily for adults to enhance their own wellbeing, but would also enable those who develop a practice to qualify for further training in order to teach .b (age 11-18) or Paws b (age 7-11) to young people. Click here for further information on the 8-session course.
There is no requirement to take part in the Taster session before enrolling on the .b Foundations course.

The .b Foundations Taster is suitable for:
• Teachers and other adults working with young people in school settings
• Parents of children (who will be) receiving .b or Paws b

Introduction
.b Foundations © is an 8-week training for teachers and staff who wish to learn the foundations of mindfulness. Since being devised by Mindfulness in Schools Project in 2012, the curriculum has been trialled and proven effective in over fifty schools worldwide.

.b Foundations is based on the core mindfulness principles found within Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) courses. However it differs in that it has been designed with school staff in mind. The course sessions and recommended home practices are shorter than MBSR/MBCT and designed to be accessible, yet still effective, for busy educational staff. The course includes aspects of the .b and Paws b curricula, along with sessions exploring the specific challenges facing those in educational settings in bringing mindfulness to the school community.

By the end of the course, participants may find their mindfulness practice supports them to feel happier, calmer and more fulfilled, get on better with others, work more effectively, and have increased resilience in the face of stress and difficulties. Staff who develop a regular practice and feel inspired to go on to teach mindfulness to students, could then attend a Teach .b or Teach Paws b training course with the Mindfulness in Schools Project.

Please see below for more information on content and course structure, and booking details for the .b Foundations course. If you wish to explore mindfulness in greater depth, you might be interested in taking part in the
8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)/Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) course. You can also take this course after completing an MBSR/MBCT course or Everyday Mindfulness's Mindfulness for Wellbeing course.

Course Structure and Content
The .b Foundations course is primarily an educational programme, supported by simple mindfulness exercises. The group consists of max. 20 participants, and meets for 8 weekly sessions. You are encouraged to practice the exercises at home with additional reading from the course book. It is strongly advised to attend a minimum of 6, and preferably all classes. Please note that making changes in your life can be challenging, and that you allow for the necessary time and focus to practice and experiment with new ways of being.
  • 8 Weekly Sessions - 1.5 hour sessions, with training in mindfulness exercises, discussions and presentations on related aspects of the .b programme.
  • Reading - You are invited to read the relevant chapter each week from the course book “Mindfulness: A practical guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World”, by Prof. Mark Williams and Danny Penman.
  • Home Practice - Approximately 20 minutes mindfulness exercises per day, guided by the CD which accompanies the course book.
  • Teacher Support - Whenever you feel the need for extra support in between classes, you can contact me by phone or email.
  • Course Themes - Waking up to the Autopilot; Bringing curiosity to our experience; Mindfulness in daily life; Stepping back from thoughts and worries; Exploring difficulty and building resilience; Relating to ourselves and others; Developing balance in our lives, etc.
  • Optional Day Retreat - You can choose to enhance your learning by taking part in a silent day retreat in the Somerset countryside, practicing different meditations together. You can book this whilst you are on the course.
